Who Should Receive The Flu Vaccine?
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends all persons over the age of 6 months who can be vaccinated, should receive a flu vaccine each flu season.
Influenza is an unpredictable and serious disease that can devastate communities and cost billions of dollars in lost productivity and health care expenses.
The best way to be protected from the flu is to get vaccinated. When enough individuals in a community are vaccinated, protection against flu is provided for those who are most vulnerable; the elderly, pregnant women, infants, and people who have chronic health conditions or are immunocompromised.
While seasonal influenza outbreaks can happen as early as October, most of the time influenza activity peaks in January or later. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body, thus it is best to be vaccinated before influenza begins spreading in our community.
